Today was a day to put last week’s cup defeat behind us, unfortunately we didn’t do this falling behind to a goal after 13 seconds. This more or less set the pattern for the game, with early passes being misplaced and lack of talking not helping stem the tide. More Acorn pressure using both flanks to good effect unsettled the Ams back four and that pressure resulted in more goals for the home side. Not without our own chances in the first period although few and far between.
The weather conditions not helping matters, with the ball coming back time and again at half time derby where 4-0 down. Trying to stay positive and push forward more in the second half, again an early goal being conceded made an uphill struggle almost impossible. Substitutions being made we still tried to be productive going forward the passing seemed to improve. Balls reaching the flanks resulting in chances being created but not resulting in any goals for all our efforts.
Matt Fishers goal on the stroke of time rounding off an 8-1 defeat. We played a good Acorn side that showed why they are second in this division, they wanted the ball and the game more than we did today. Good results being needed over the coming weeks as we play teams of a similar standard.
