Staying with a 4-4-2 formation which has seen only one goal conceded in the previous two matches. Trying to put last week’s disappointing cup exit behind us a win today would do nicely.
Losing the coin toss we changed ends and we were forced to play into the wind, starting brightly some early possession and good passing football saw chances being created. The game flowed end to end with Wollaton’s keeper using the wind well to kick the ball long down field. It was midway through the first half when a loose pass in the middle of the park allowed wollaton to break down Derby’s defence and break the deadlock.
Derby showed composure and didn’t let their heads drop, still playing passing football but not capitalising on the chances made. The game was physical and some strong challenges where put in by both teams, but the referee dealt with it but Wollaton picked a few yellow cards throughout the game. The second half as the first was end to end but derby’s back four held firm, substitutions were made with White and Pateman giving way to Gibbs and Fisher. From this derby were on the front foot looking for an equalizer, our goal came from a good penetrating run into Wollaton's penalty area and put in a cross which Fisher headed into the back of the net.
The scene was set for a tense finish to the game, Wollaton pushed forward looking for the win which saw a succession of corners defended well by the ams. Derby made one last change with Holwes replacing Clay at left back, the game ended in stalemate but a hard fought draw which saw a lot of mental character to not let our heads drop and working for our goal.
