On a light foggy afternoon today’s fixture came against a Crown Inn side looking to push up the table. Derby didn’t start so well with a lot of short sloppy passes and poor defending which allowed the opposition a few early chances, from these mistakes the Ams slowly picked themselves up and began to play football with a long balls being chased into the penalty area but no end product.

The pressure seemed all one way with Crown Inn getting into the box time and again; with only the occasional good move Derby did try to stem the tide. A good run out from the back by Hosker saw him brought down on the edge of Crowns penalty area, Hosker picked himself up to take the resulting free kick which was driven round the wall and the keeper parried it out to a waiting Perry who side footed into the back of net 1-0.

Crown Inn came at us with renewed vigour after the restart, a run down Derby’s right saw the ball played into the middle and a shot from 20 yards flew into the top corner past the outstretched hand of Cartwright 1-1. This unsettled us when shortly after a good run down the right saw their captain brought down which resulted in a penalty. He picked himself up and stuck the pen home, but then had to retake as the ref hadn’t blown his whistle. His second attempt was struck low to Cartwrights right which he saved and the follow up was pushed over the bar.

The second half saw a little more positivity, but again our opposition looked to steam roller the ams with a lot of good forward play which saw Derby do some desperate defending with goal line clearances and last ditch tackles. It wasn’t all one way traffic however and on more than one occasion Derby counter attacked and put Crown Inn under pressure, unlucky not to score again by dead ball or open play. 2nd half subs saw Gibbs and Macmillan replace Crosby and D. Hart, the game was end to end but the last 5 minutes saw free kicks and corners galore pen Derby in the area with their backs to the wall.

Another hard earned point boys with players missing against a quality attacking side, but the same attitude and commitment was shown again.
