Our lack of fortune in front of goal seemed to bring Lady Bay into the game as they won some ball in midfield and pressed forward making some penetration into the derby area. Time and again we pushed the ball to the front men Crosby and Pateman and out to the wingers Macmillan and Perry, who made inroads into our opponents area forcing saves and corners.
The half came to a close after some end to end play with a succession of Lady Bay corners which were defended resolutely by the derby team, at times scrambled clear and blocked in the goal mouth. The second half saw the visitor’s race out of the blocks with renewed vigour and they found the net first after attacking down our right flank and crossing to the far post were the ball was volleyed home 1-0. However within 1 minute derby were level after a ball forward found Crosby who broke to the by line and crossed to the far post where Macmillan unmarked scored from close range.
More pressure from the opposition saw derby on the back foot and seeming not to get out of our half, a second goal saw Lady Bay in control at 2-1, subs made late in the half saw Fisher and howes come on for Crosby and Clay. Some good play allowed Fisher to use his pace and get at their back line but again we had no cutting edge and failed to trouble the keeper.
A late penalty saw the game end 3-1 to Lady Bay, but had our 10 minute spell of pressure in the first half borne fruit the game’s outcome would have been different so let’s pick ourselves up and keep up the effort and work rate of previous matches.
