Hello sportsfans.

The starting line up. This week we had guest appearances from the ‘Mr Men’ series of characters. Mr Nosey in goal (AB), Mr Clumsy (AM) in as sweeper. Either side of him we had Mr Bump (LB) and, of course, Mr Small. In midfield we had Mr Tall holding with Mr Perfect (RM) and Mr Happy (RS) in front of him. On the wings we started with Mr Tickle (SM) on the right wing with Mr Impossible (DT) on the left. Upfront we had Mr Skinny (GS) and Mr Slow (JW) making another partnership. On the bench we had Mr Chatterbox (KR) and Mr Daydream (RD).

In the opening ten minutes we were defensively more active than we would have cared to be, with the danger many times being snuffed out by either Bradders or Morris clearing or Butters collecting a through ball. Fifteen minutes into the fixture and Ady had been beaten (see BONK of the match) leaving a three on two situation, but Morris stood tall and intercepted.

As is always the case when we play Little Eaton, a midfield battle followed to which we were the better with sweeper Rich really taking a grip on the game in midfield with the Singo working his little socks off.

Half way into the first half and the ball was played to Swaineys feet, he came to meet it but, in the blink of an eye had stepped over the ball and was dashing down the left flank in acres of space after leaving his man for dead, looked up and saw Sam making the best timed run of his life to the far post, delivered in an inch perfect cross to which Sam rose like petrol prices and powerfully headed into the net leaving the helpless keeper helpless. 1-0.

They did have a chance to get back level and would have had it not been for the legend that is butters. The ball fell freely to their midfielder on the edge of the box and lined up a shot with the triage of lights that mounts on the ‘Predators’ shoulder, destined for the back of the net. He struck fiercely and true. With very little time to adjust his body position, Butters managed to divert the ball with the fingertips of his right hand and the ball rocketed safely over the cross bar.

This was pretty much the last action of the first half and we would go in leading and now with the wind in our favor. Should have been an easier affair than the first half. And it was.

No real chances at goal by Little Eaton. The closest they came was when that man Ady was once in the thick of the action, diverted a shot that was going well wide back on target, to which our keeper produced another fine save deflecting the ball onto the upright and back into play.

BONK of the match – Ady Colley – only one contestant but with two entries. Kelvin explains.

The above-mentioned player has his normal solid reliable game in Derbyshire Amateurs fine 1-0 win over mid table Little Eaton. However, a couple of incidents, one in particular, will sit long in the memory.

Incident 1
Seemed to be covering the left-winger well when suddenly was left for dead by the pace of the 67-year-old Little Eaton striker known as the Derbyshire coffin dodger. Ady blamed the pitch in his defence.

Incident 2
Seemed little danger on the right hand side. Suddenly Ady went to pass the ball down the flank and scuffed the ground with his boot-VERY EMBARRASING. In fact if we all cast our mind back to Saturday November 10th 2007 St Peter's Park is not a good ground for Ady. Do we all remember Ady attempts to play extra time by the miss of the season plus he missed a sitter against Little Eaton at Home in August. We all want to know does Ady really want to play for Little Eaton!!!!

Man of the match – Adam Blackburn – one world class save and commanded his box authoritatively. Best player on the pitch and the referee called it. Would look nice sporting the captain’s armband. Spot on!
