The 2nd Xll started their season at the lovely picturesque venue of the Abbotsford Community Centre in Ilkeston. For those of you who have never played there before it looks like your typical park in MOSS SIDE.
We arrived with 13 players, with Danny and Ben the 2 substitutes to start with.
We decided to play with a 4-4-2 formation. We had John in goal followed by a back 4 of Matt on the right, Dave Hart on the left with Shepp and Neale at the heart of the defence. In Midfield we had Rambo on the left, Michael Hart on the right with Singo and Mark in the middle. Grum and Lanky Bravo started up front. If this strating xll doesn’t frighten you nothing will!
We started off very brightly and dominated the first 15 with Grum causing problems in the air and Bravo's pace electrifying. We had some good set pieces which we should have capitalise on but failed miserably.
After this spell of pressure Acorn begin to get a foothold on the game and certainly in the last 15 looked dangerous with Derby Ams having to thank Shepp and John for keeping the score at 0-0 at half time.
Second half we fell asleep for the first 10 minutes and went 1-0 down to a great goal (from there point a view) and John had no chance.
From then on until the last 20 nothing really seemed to happen with both sides cancelling each other out and few clear cut chances.
On 70 minutes Derby Ams gained a free kick on the left hand side which Rambo took and swung in a ball which Dave Grummit swooped like a Seagull on Cleethorpes beach and scored yet another goal for the Derby Ams. It must be 150 th goal for the club in 911 games!!!
This made both sides take note but for Derby Ams, Acorn equalised when the ball was played down the right and Dave Hart must have been weary of getting a red card after he pole axed a player 10 minutes earlier and the cross was sent over to the left winger who hooked it back for the striker to score.
Acorn seemed as though they had done the job and again conceded a needless free kick 35 yards out. Let me say at this point there supporters were also get cocky as well all 15 of them! Rambo placed the ball and without a care bent the ball in viciously to give the hapless keeper no chance. However he mard the occasion with the most gay celebration ever.
As we thought we had got a deserved draw Acorn ran straight down the middle through 4 players to score a winner. Final score 3-2.
Grum gathered everyone round to say how disappointed he was but proud the effort put in well for 89 minutes in anycase.
Star players for Derby Ams Shepp – boy can this boy play he has speed , skill and such a will to win he's a great asset. John in goals -great debut cannot be at fault for any of the goals solid keeper who will go far, well at least to Mansfield where we play Brunts old Boys.
Special mention should go to Singo who had a battle with their No8 just out of Strangeways where he gave as good as he got.
