Again we played a 4-4-2 formation, the line was John "Romper Stomper" Bennett in goals, with Matt Fisher on the right, Neale "First touch" Roberts on the left, with Belly & Shep making up the formidable back four. The midfield was changed from the week before with first team call ups and injuries taking their toll. On the left was Kelvin "Gay Celebration" Rampton with Jack " I hate you " Butler on the right, in
the centre was James "Better player than his brother" Morris & Mark "Michael Dawson" Jebbett, up front again was David " Sibierski" Grummit & Ashley "Andrew " Bravo.
From the first whistle we looked the better side with some of our passing and movement reminiscent of Brazil circa 1970, for all our pressure though we failed to create many chances and were nearly caught out on the break a couple of times. The game then changed in dramatic fashion when Jack" I'll get you " Butler was crudely hacked down on the right touchline, Kelvin curled in a great ball & the Silver Feather Dave "Sibierski" Grummit rose like a salmon and glanced the ball in right off his bald spot, 15 years early it might have looped over the bar when there was more hair on his balding pate.
After the goal we were comfortably on top and looked good in midfield, with James Morris showing some dazzling skills & Mark "Michael Dawson" Jebbett putting in some crunching tackles & even winning some headers.
The second half came & we started off like footballing gods, Shep & Belly marshalling the back four superbly, Jebbo & James pulling the strings in Midfield, we looked like we were going to coast to a memorable victory, then all of a sudden a long ball over the top & their young centre forward was on to it like Anne Frank up a loft
ladder and accelerated away from Shep & calmly slotted it past Romper
Stomper.
Their heads were up & we suddenly came under immense pressure, but seemed to be dealing with it well, then out of nowhere a second goal came for Cowardly Nottinghamshire, the ball somehow got to their fat left winger who finished cooly past John. But Brave Derby Ams started to claw their way back into the game and put some pressure on the cowards of Nottingham, we retained the ball well & started to look like an equaliser while Shep & Belly kept our lines clear.
Then the moment that defines heroes, A free kick on the half way line to Brave Derbyshire Ams, Belly steps up and curls a magnificent ball into the box, the Silver Fox flicks on & Jack Butler looking suspiciously 10 yars offside nods into the back of the net, cue manly celebrations & another gay dance from Kelvin. There was still 10
minutes to go though & cowardly Nottinghamshire were throwing everything at Brave Derbyshire, Mark "Djemba " Jebbett then has the 10 minutes of his life, breaking up cowardly Nottinghamshire’s attacks with bonecrunching tackles and winning aerial challenges he had no right to. John coolly let a long throw bounce three times in the area and then let it bounce into the net knowing there was no touch, the cowardly Nottinghamshire players protested recockulosly but the referee & linesman were made of sterner stuff & correctly disallowed the goal.
All in all a fair result but after our first half performance Brave Derbyshire will be counting this as 2 lost points.
Man of the match, as much as it pains me to do this, man of the match is Mark "Michael Dawson" Jebbett
